Mekanism has been around for a while. It was in Voltz way back, but since then it’s changed a LOT. New models, more machines, over all it’s become unrecognizable in its quality. There are a lot of new mechanics, but arguably the most recognizable is its ore processing system. With the help of mods like JAOPCA, this system can process practically anything. There are 5 tiers; Tier 1 is normal smelting, Tier 2 is 1 ore in, 2 ingots out, Tier 3: 1 ore in 3 out, Tier 4: 1 ore in, 4 ingots out (my personal favorite), Tier 5: 1 ore in, 5 ingots out (separate guide for this one).
This is the easiest tier, requiring 1 machine (excluding power of course).
This setup uses just an Energized Smelter. You need power for this machine, of course (hence the name).
This tier doubles ores with ease. No external requirements other than power (It’s a given from now on, okay?).
This setup works by placing ores into the Enrichment Chamber which turns it into 2 dust, which then gets smelted. As a side note, Mekanism machines can pull and push from different sides in the side config settings. That’s why you don’t see any pipes in the photos (except for for gases).
This is where it starts kicking off. Ore tripling is where most people jump to. One gas is needed but its super easy to make and mass produce.
As said earlier, one gas is needed: oxygen, which is made via an Electrolytic Separator getting fed with water. Water can easily be made from Mekanism pumps over a water source or a infinite water source from a external mod, I used the sink from cooking from blockheads. Dumping the excess hydrogen is advised, unless you are going to use it. The Electrolytic Separator automatically outputs the oxygen (Be careful, as the side that the oxygen comes out of can’t be changed.) to the Purification Chamber, which converts each ore into three clumps. Those are output into a crusher, which turns them into dirty ore dust, which is sent into an Enrichment Chamber to become regular dust, which is smelted into ingots.
I personally prefer this tier over any other because the gases needed are simple and can be 100% automated with no external requirements like sulfur. This tier quadruples the ore. The gases needed are hydrogen chloride (This may be where you use that hydrogen I said to dump earlier.) and oxygen again. Hydrogen chloride needs chlorine, which is made by feeding an Electrolytic Separator brine, which comes from a thermal evaporation tower. In my opinion, having a resistive heater as well as the solars is 100% worth it if you can spare the power. This greatly increases heat in the Tower and therefore increases the brine output.
The Evaporation Tower is for demonstration, when building your own make sure to make it TALL. Resistive heaters, as said earlier, are optional, but highly advised for optimal brine output. A buffer is also well advised in case you aren’t using the system. Here’s the explanation: hydrogen chloride goes in the Chemical Injection Chamber which starts the process by making 4 shards per ore. They then get pushed into the Purification Chamber with oxygen, turning them into clumps, which go into a Crusher, turning them into dirty ore dust, which again goes into an Enrichment Chamber, turning it into regular dust, which is smelted into ingots.

Advanced Smelters don’t have to be used, anything from a minecraft furnace to an alloy furnace set to smelting only.
Machines can be upgraded with the speed, energy and gas upgrades, and upgrade installers are also highly advised for large scale ore processing, but they do use more power and gas to run so keep that in mind.
Without the mod JAOPCA a lot of ores won’t be supported so I highly recommend getting that mod.
