First of all, sorry for my poor vocabulary. As long as I’m not a native English speaker, I may have some troubles in discribing things I really mean to say.
Let me introduce myself. I’m EAWorld(no real names here) and I’m an architect in real life. This game is one of the reasons I decided to take on this profession. I started my minecraft building ‘career’ long time before this. And the theory I learned in university about real building experience changed my mind about the way you should build in Minecraft.
Journey I had to make
Being short, all of that started with pre-building overthinking. I’m playing with my friend and creating the plan had to be a good idea. First it started with default for some of us ‘changing living location after a month of playing on a server’. I decided to make a draft of building we would use for all purposes. That was a bad realisation due to server’s modpack specific, but still some plan.
We didn’t build it because we gave up on this modpack
Some time after we moved to the next server and I made a plan on same purpose. It wasn’t to late that time and we even had a chance to live on that project for a month! Then we finished modpack. It was an abandoned island in the center of the ocean. I planned more zones over there and had a discussion with my mates on how big area we need.
Screens seem to be lost. But I made a colab project in WOT using this design and I have some footage from non-minecraft engine. I made a video to describe game modificarion about this:
Following project didn’t come to end from outside, but finished from the interior. No screens yet, only draft. And this draft was made on the beggining of out playthrough.
It was a great structure and I even made some pics to place on the bottom and roof from OnlinePictureFrame mod.
And finally comes DDSS playthrough. Some explanation later, picture first.

What is the point?
So, why I’m diving into old projects to discuss the latest one? The answer is progression I made in building theory. From the first discussed project to the last, some organization tweaks were discovered. It makes me think of the way you have to build if you call yourself an architect in minecraft. And keep in mind that the word ‘creativity’, is always around solving the problem in unique way.
In real life all the structures(like cathedrals, mountains, castles, bridges, etc.) have their own story of forming and problems they solve with it. Real life houses and churches formed depending on religion, culture and technologies of some community. They represent the problem solving of the current time, based on later expirience(if it exists). And for my opinion, minecraft players have knowledge of building from different world(I mean the real one), and this knowledge have nothing to do with solving the problems that occur while playing.
That’s why I tried to create an unified structure that fits almost any need we had on server. It is structure that reminds some people variation of underground living, but without need to dig stone to expand space. And that is nearly ideal explanation. This way of creating inner space is one of the most popular because it solves too many problems without lots of time consuming. So my plan do as well. You can see that this type of planning began on second project.
The way it works

First of all I made a ‘frame layer’. It’s the layer made of beams it grid pattern with 7×7 gaps filled with glass. The grid can form any shape, dependent on what you need in specific situation. The structure stacks up to the infinity in height with 5 blocks between each layer. My personal structure shifts each next layer 4 blocks in two dimensions. This gaps in floor helps to move with Elytra in them. What about bottom part with stone etc. on my picture? It’s formed to create a 30 blocks distance to the mobs that spawn there. It’s optional addition that have no use on server, but could have with another modpack.
As you can see it forms a grid on map too. Looks like a total mess, but follows the FUNCTION I had to make.
My base on DDSS is a home for energy production and consumption machines, BloodMagic and AstralSorcery altars, Agricultures plants and EnvironmentalTech miners. All the need in multi-block structures and mod-spawners can be fullfilled with this plan, so I have no need to reformate it later. It saves horizontal and VERTICAL communication between all types of machines and storages.
My idea plan saves time to think about nice automation of processing then trying to save your house with solid walls.
