Bad news had reached Lash. The lands he protected, the villages he was lord of were under attack. A mysterious figure astride an ebony dragon had laid waste to the villages and was moving steadily south. Making its way towards his base. A chilling bolt of fear made its way through Lash, as he went out the main entrance of his citadel. If the reports were correct, this entity had unknown powers, possessing an aptitude for engineering as well as dabbling in magic? No, this couldn’t be correct. The only consciousness in this infinite world capable of using both magic and tech was him. Then it struck him. “Infinite world, infinite possibilities” he muttered to himself.
As he left the base, Gustavo chirruped and flew circles around him. “No Gustavo, this is too dangerous for you.” Gustavo let out a dejected woos and settled back down on his perch. Lash took a look at Gustavo and said, “i’m sorry, i might not come back. But promise me you’ll stay strong, ok?” Gustavo let out a questioning drizzle, but Lash shook his head. Gustavo wouldn’t understand. All of a sudden, there was an ear-splitting roar, the kind shoggoths make, only amplified to the point where it shook the world. He was here.
Lash whirled around and drew his sword, waiting. Over the horizon, he saw a shape slowly coalescing into the figure of a dragon, and on its back, a figure sat, guiding it. It begun. The dragon swooped and tried to claw our valiant Lash, but he was expecting it. He grabbed the dragon’s claw and used it to pull himself onto the back of the dragon. The enemy stood, poised to strike. A deft blow and a swift wing knocked Lash to the floor, and the figure opened its helmet.
It was himself, he was fighting himself, and that made him shudder. Thinking back to all the horrible experiments he’d done to advance his technological prowess, the cloning one stood out to him. A rogue clone perhaps? The enemy raised his mighty broadsword and brought down on Lash, but Lash rolled away, only suffering a minor scrape on the side of his head. He swung his leg and knocked the evil Lash over, and got him in a headlock. “Who are you, why are you here!” Lash yelled. The Evil Lash chuckled and simply said "we are one, we are many, we love you, but we hate you. We are you, but we transcend you. We were here at the beginning of time, before this world even existed. I will die, I will take my place. We are ancient. We are eternal.
With that the evil clone threw himself off of the dragon, splatting like a fly on the windshield of a car. This encounter left Lash with more questions than answers. He landed the dragon in his nursery and retired to his bedroom to contemplate. Then, there was a knocking at the door.
